The rapid growth of the legal cannabinoid industry and bad press has lead to a lot of confusion amongst both consumers and suppliers. Unfortunately, this confusion has lead to a series of myths that are far from accurate. Let's debunk them!
CBD Comes from Hemp, Not Cannabis
While it is true to state that CBD is normally extracted from Hemp, it's also false to say that it doesn't come from cannabis. That's because Cannabis is Hemp and Hemp is Cannabis! The term 'Hemp' is just a term used to categorise low-THC varieties of the Cannabis genus (Cannabis Sativa L) that were originally bred for industrial purposes. Such varieties can be legally cultivated and naturally have higher levels of cannabidiol. Consequently, CBD Oils could also be accurately named as 'low-THC cannabis oils'.
CBD Will Get You High
Given that CBD is extracted from the cannabis plant, it unfortunately carries all of the stigma associated with getting high. The compound responsible for getting people high is THC. CBD, however, is non-intoxicating and does not produce any euphoric sense of being high. In fact, studies have shown that CBD can counter-act many of the more negative effects that come with getting high on THC. CBD can induce a calm/relaxing feeling but this is not comparable to the mind-altering high that comes from THC.
CBD is Non-Physchoactive
As CBD does not get you high, many people label CBD as being non-psychoactive. However, such people do not fully understand the definition of psychoactive. The definition from the World Health Organisation is as follows:
Psychoactive substances are substances that, when taken in or administered into one's system, affect mental processes, e.g. cognition or affect.
The fact that CBD can have a calming/relaxing effect means that it is by definition psychoactive. As is coffee and tea! That doesn't necessarily mean it is bad, as previously mentioned, CBD is non-intoxicating and does not seem to impair mental function.
CBD is Expensive
Whether or not something is expensive is highly subjective and normally depends on an individual's financial circumstances. But when you compare CBD to other everyday costs, it's not actually as expensive as people think.
The average CBD dose that people take tends to be around 15mg per day. This equates to 3 drops of our 10% Cannabidiol Oil. This product costs £39.99 and contains roughly 200 drops. If we divide the cost by the drops then times by 3 we will get the average daily cost.
