Cork City: The underdogs (Recent Form: WWWWWW)
Cork City comfortably beat Levadia (6:2 on aggregate) in the first round of Europa League qualifications. On Thursday, they take on AEK Larnaca in the first-leg of second qualifying round. “There is a strong Spanish influence in their team and they keep the ball very well. They are very patient, they will keep possession and try to open up the gaps and wear you down to create chances. They have a number of seriously good players and it is a massive challenge to us, we know that, but at the same time, we look back at last year and the experience we gained. This is where you want to be. You look at last Thursday night, nearly 7,000 people, the noise ringing in the lads’ ears coming out of the tunnel,” said manager John Caulfield.
AEK Larnaca: In good shape (Recent Form: DWDWWD)
AEK Larnaca finished last season on 2nd place in the Cypriot league, so now they’re competing in Europe. In the first round AEK Larnaca easily outplayed Lincoln (6:1 on aggregate). Last week they drew on the road (1:1), but everything was clear already after the first match. AEK Larnaca appear to be in fine shape. In pre-season they went to Poland and didn’t concede any goal in two games (1:0 Jagiellonia Bialystok, 0:0 Zaglebie Lubin). In total, AEK Larnaca remain unbeaten since early April.
NOWGOAL BETTING VERDICT:
Summing up, I think that this might be a low-scoring clash. AEK Larnaca seem to be the favourites in this tie, nevertheless they don’t need to push for a win in the first-leg. Cork City will probably try to keep a clean sheet on Thursday and in my opinion there may not be too many goals in this outing.
